Depending on the status and speed of the vessel the AIS signals are sent in intervals between 3 minutes and a few seconds.
The position updates may vary from a few minutes up to several hours. This depends on traffic, weather, the type of the AIS transponder (Class A or B), the moving status and speed of the vessel.
The update frequency of the AIS signals also depends whether the data can be received by our terrestrial AIS receiving stations or by satellite. Every single AIS position report captured by FleetMons AIS receiver network is displayed in real-time in the FleetMon Explorer. Vessels that sail far away from shore can only be covered by using satellite AIS. The position updates provided by satellite may vary from a few minutes to several hours.
For extending our terrestrial coverage all over the world we need your help. You can become one of our AIS partners and receive free access to our unlimited plan. Please click here for further information: Become AIS Partner
